• Multiplication Strategies
     
    1.  2's know your doubles. 2 x 3 = 6 Think 3 + 3 = 6
     
    2.   3's know how to count by threes. 3,6,9,12,15,21,24,27,30
     
    3.  4's  -  double the double
                4 x 7 = (2 x 7 = 14 + 14 = 28)
     
    4.  Know how to count by 5's.
             Even # x 5 = 0 at the end
                         5 x 8 = 40
            Odd # x 5 = 5 at the end
                         5 x 7 = 35
     
    5.  Squares
                            6 x 6 = 36            notice the 3  6's
                            7 x 7 = 49ers       football team
                            8 x 8 = 64           squares on a checkerboard
     
    6.  Trick of the nines - the sum of the digits in the product = 9
                                        9 x 6 = 54
                 Come one down from the 6 and think: 5 + ? = 9
     
    7.  6 x 7
         6 x 8                         Double the 3's
     
                    3 x 7 = 21    so    21 +21 = 42     so  6 x 7 = 42
                    3 x 8 = 24    so    24 + 24 = 48    so  6 x 8 = 48
     
    8.  8 x 7 = 56     Think:  56 = 7 x 8    (counting order)
