• HEALTH / PHYSICAL  EDUCATION WELLNESS
         Students in grades 3 & 4 attend Health/Physical Education Wellness classes once a week for 30 minutes.  These classes are held in the Science Room at Antolini.
       
     
    GRADE   3
     
    HEALTHY  FRIENDSHIPS -- GRADE 3
         Students in grade 3 spend time studying lessons that focus on "Healthy Friendships".  These lessons help the students to understand how family and friends influence health behaviors, how to meet and keep positive friends and how to identify and manage a variety of feelings.  Students write short stories about a time when they were a positive influence on either a friend or a family member and also about a time when someone was a positive influence to them.  
     
     
     
    STAYING  IN  BALANCE -- GRADE  3
         Students in grade 3 also study the "Staying in Balance" unit.  These lessons focused on choosing daily healthy habits including getting enough sleep, brushing their teeth, bathing and eating healthy foods.  A number of weeks were spent discussing the 6 classes of Nutrients and their role in keeping the body healthy.  A number of lessons are spent with activities that involve the Food Guide Plate.  Visit www.myplate.org for information, worksheets, and on-line games involving nutrition, healthy eating, and exercise.  
     
     
     
     
    A PERFECT BALANCE -- GRADE 3
         In the Spring, grade 3 students will begin the "A Perfect Balance" unit.  These lessons will focus on six of the body systems.  Systems studied will be the Circulatory System, the Digestive System, the Respiratory System, the Nervous System, the Skeletal System, and the Muscular System.  Students will learn about what these systems are made of and what their functions are.
     
     
     
     
    THE AMAZING BALANCE -- GRADE  3
         After studying six of the body systems, the students will take a closer look at the muscles and the skeleton of the body.  We will also discuss how the muscles work together and we will spend some time focusing on exercise.
     
        
     
     
    GRADE   4
     
    GROWING  INTO  RESPONSIBILITIES -- GRADE 4
         The 4th grade year begins with a unit called "Growing Into Responsibilities".  Students learn about self-control, the importance of listening and the difference between positive and negative friendships.  Students spend many lessons talking about being responsible, making good decisions, and being helpful to others.  A number of lessons on Bullying are also included in this unit.
     
     
    HEALTHY, DRUG-FREE  LIVING  --  GRADE 4
         After returning from winter vacation, students in grade 4 began the unit on "Healthy, Drug-Free Living".  This unit will focus on the positive and negative uses for drugs & medicines, understanding the effects of alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, cocaine and inhalants.  Students will also spend time discussing peer pressure and ways to say NO to drugs.  These lessons do not promote drug-use but work to give students a better understanding of the dangers of drugs and alcohol.  
     
     
     
     
    STAYING  SAFE -- GRADE 4
         In the Spring, students will begin the "Staying Safe" unit.  The unit begins with a lesson discussing unintentional injuries and how accidents can be avoided.  Other lessons include information about violence, safety when using wheeled equipment (roller blades, skateboards, bikes), safety while in vehicles, personal safety, safety while home alone and burn prevention.
     
     
     
    THE FOOD-HEALTH CONNECTION -- GRADE  4
         This unit is similar to the unit taught in grade 3, but nutrition can't be talked about enough!!  Students will continue to learn about healthy foods, personal health and the newly improved My Plate Guide.
     
     
    ** Videos are shown throughout each unit and students are quite often engaged in class discussions, small group work and complete worksheets **
