5 Fun Pattern Block Activities for Preschoolers This Summer

1. Build and Create
Use pattern blocks to make pictures such as flowers, houses, and boats. Encourage your child to talk about the shapes they used.

2. Sort by Shape or Color
Have your child sort the pattern blocks into groups by color or shape. Ask questions like, "Which group has the most?" or "How many triangles do you have?"

3. Make and Extend Patterns
Create simple patterns (red, blue, red, blue) and have your child continue them. As they become more confident, try more complex patterns using different shapes and colors.

4. Trace and Design
Place pattern blocks on paper and trace around them to create pictures and designs. Children can color their creations and name the shapes they used.

5. Count and Compare
Use pattern blocks for counting practice. Ask your child to count how many blocks they used, compare groups (more, less, equal), and identify which shapes appear most often.
