Superintendent's Page

Welcome to New Hartford Public Schools!  I am honored to serve as your Superintendent and work alongside our students, staff, families and community.  I consider it a true honor and privilege to serve as New Hartford’s Superintendent.  I am driven by each child’s well-being, their achievement and I look forward to working with all of our families and staff for the success of every student. New Hartford’s longstanding tradition of providing an excellent education for each child will continue and will flourish.

Biography
I began my teaching career in Westport, teaching Spanish to  Kindergarten, first and fifth. I then taught in Wallingford, where I grew up, teaching fifth grade and first grade. I became an assistant principal at Sedgwick Middle School for the West Hartford Public Schools in 2012, before being named principal at Braeburn Elementary School in 2015. I attained my undergraduate, Masters, and 6th year degrees from Southern Connecticut State University, and completed the Advanced Official Certificate in Superintendent of Schools program at Central Connecticut State University.

Leadership Philosophy
I believe that instructional leadership is the catalyst for setting the expectation for student achievement. With analysis, observation and exemplary teaching practices, all educators can lead their students and colleagues to improved outcomes. An instructional leader inspires educators to engage within a cycle of continuous improvement, knowing that there is always room for growth in their professional skillset. I believe that every individual staff member must realize their current performance will evolve with feedback, so that their students become the beneficiaries of this reflective practice. I believe that instructional leaders understand curriculum, effective instruction, and student assessment practices that drive student ownership of their learning. In doing so I believe that practical and purposeful professional development should be relative and applicable. This requires us to survey the needs of our staff, identify priorities and look from within for opportunities for teaching and learning. As an instructional leader I must establish trust and work in a collaborative manner to achieve these necessary outcomes and practices.

Furthermore, I believe that every student can be successful. We are ultimately responsible for facilitating each student’s realization of their potential through achievements and failures. We must continue to inspire and encourage our students to become intrinsic learners and take hold of their own learning experiences. I believe that instructional leaders engage their families, community members, staff and students in setting a clear vision of student success. As an instructional leader, I myself am committed to being a life-long learner, always expanding my horizons to lead others to new heights. Ultimately my desire is to achieve these beliefs as the Superintendent of the New Hartford Public Schools.
