Vision Screening
Vision screening as mandated under Section 10-214 of the Connecticut General Statutes (CGS) consists of a screening for distance visual acuity. Vision screenings are required annually to each student in kindergarten, grades one and three to five, inclusive.
Exemption or Excuse from Screening
• Parents may exempt their children from screenings for religious reasons and must provide the school with a written request for exemption from screenings (see CGS, Section 10-208. Exemption from examination or treatment).
• Students who have been screened by their primary care provider and/or are receiving specialist care and show documentation that it has been done, may be excused from school screening.
As necessary, special educational provisions shall be made for students with handicapping conditions.
